Today is the opening of deer season here in Northern California. During a long hike through the Siskiyou Mountains I saw only one spike buck and three does. A real joy was seeing this cinnamon phase, black bear. I heard it coming through the burned timber and stood real still beside a burned snag. The bear came within 60 feet of me and never knew I was there. Ambled along its way. Note how the forest is recovering with undergrowth after one of our recent forest fires. Nature is truly amazing.

How wonderful to witness first hand the things of nature. Here in Colorado the fire season was forgiving and not much destruction at all. That hasn't happened in recent years. Indeed some of the places I go to that were devastated by fire are returning to a forest once again.
