Greetings Friends,
Scoped this sale out on Wed in the local flyer rag (per usual). Found two packaged red T-shirts with "RETIREMENT" stenciled in white for my dear folks up north. Mom just retired at the end of April and Dad will be done at the end of July. My brother and are planning for me to fly up to the Windy City sometime in August for a surprise party for them both.... They were a quarter each and will make a nice edition to the party --- a very timely find!
Also found an old Callaway "Big Bertha" S2H2 driver with 9 degrees of loft. Clearly, it had been recently reshafted with a high-quality graphite shaft, but not regripped ??? Still, for fifty cents I'm far from complaining.... Always wanted to test drive one of these, it's clearly one of the first models because it isn't massively oversized, I'm guesstimating early 90's...? Been looking for a decent new driver since mine's getting a little too whippy from a combination of overuse and age.
But the find of the day, the Piece de Resistance was a copy of the 'The Lost Symbol' (heard this one's a winner, we'll see) by Dan Brown for fifty cents also. I hated 'The Davinci Code' because of the ham-fisted italicized thoughts, wooden characters and some other awkwardness. Naturally, I didn't want to buy this one even at used Amazon prices and surely not retail! I've literally been looking for a cheap used copy to read since it came out in like October..... It's another example of how patience and persistence can pay off in the second hand market. Eat your heart out Dan Brown. So if this one sucks, I'm not out much it's also a FIRST EDITION so who knows, maybe someday it will be worth some bucks...?
Now, if you'll excuse me I need to go and do the "happy dance".

often its those small victorys that one finds in garage / yard . church sale type hunting that makes life fun -- i often get silver or gold jewelry at a local churchs large yearly sale --seems some folks just give everything to the church when old folks pass on at times ( or esle they see a bit of gaudy jewelry and think its "fake" or think the thin gold chain is "plated") and so it winds up on the junk jewelry table for 25 to 50 cents . where i "rescue" sterling silver and gold items. ;D

You did well, that Dan Brown novel is still pretty new :icon_thumleft: I was reading eh reviews on it the other day, I it's fast paced like the Da Vinci Code. I would have been happy to find that book. You got a good club for $0.50 too, I would just spend a few dollars and put a pro grip on it and sell it :icon_thumleft: I like my King Cobra driver :tongue3:
