These were also used in roof construction around the turn of the Century , well 1900's that is.
They were also used to fix auto bodies up until the 50's or a little later . And as said above they used
it for pipes , then they found it was not good to have in the water supply .

Definitely a pig (of lead). Are there marks on the end or sides where another would have attached, like 0-0-0-0 ? Many times, these were cast with 4 or 5 pieces connected. These are still around today, but I don't know why. I had a tenant who was a plumber, and he had a number of pounds of lead pigs laying around. Lots of different styles and sizes, somtimes the manufacturer's name is on it.

Many thanks to Rancho Leo, worldtalker, Daedalus and High Plains Digger for your posts in regard to this piece. There are no markings on it of any kind, but I feel you're all correct in assuming that it's "lead pig was widely used by plumbers to be melted down and poured into sewer pipe joints."

Thanks again,
Dave

Saw lead that way years ago at the newspaper printers. They were used and reused to set type. My age is showing

Your age isn't showing to me cabincreeker, but your knowledge of history is!
Happy hunting to you,
