check out Prehintie "light green, oil green, gray, white, colorless, frequently fading upon exposure: vitreous, waxy streak colorless
fracture uneven; translucent to almost transparent.
some of finest qualities has come from Passaic Co. NJ, VA also occurs in MI & CN
But after that, I look at chrysoprase, & that fits too. what ever it is, it's nice! What are you gonna do with it?

That, my friend looks like very high quality chrysoprase!! Chrysoprase is chalcedony, so it is much harder than opal or the prehinite mentioned above. Chrysoprase also usually found in sheets with a "rind" on both top and bottom as your piece is. How big is it?? Do you cut and polish stones??

It weighs 121.0 grams size is 3 1/2 X 2" I have a smaller piece too.
Thinking I may sell. I am working the Fire agate.

When I look at crysoprase specimens on line and in my books, few look as nice as your piece.
Keep it for sure.
Maybe get togeather with a gem stone cutter and work a deal for finished pieces.

Precious, please PM me if you're going to sell it, I may be interested. I do cut and polish stones for my jewelry work.

Hardness test, try scratching it with a known piece of quartz.

it is some stuff my grandfather left me. not sure if he traded for it or found it.
He worked in a smelter as a brick layer. He would have to go in the mines and build supports so the other miners could safely go down.
He lived in Oracle ,Az. mined in Morenci and surrounding places. he rockhound for many many years. Even places that are now off limits.
He has also gone to Mexico. So really it is hard telling where he got it. :dontknow:
