Im seeing alot of gold jewelry on Ebay shipping out of Hong Kong.Granted, some items are plated or filled, but others are listed as "solid 18k" or "solid 14k".Ive scoured over these "solid" pieces and find nothing in the ads indicating otherwise.
The pieces are typically hallmarked "18k Italy".Some of the sellers are from HK, others are from U.S. and shipping from HK.The seller feedback ratings are very high....usually 100%.Heres the thing. The pieces are no reserve and the ones that do sell, even with shipping, sell for a fraction of gold scrap value.??
The sellers offer satisfaction or your money back??
Does anyone know whats up with this ??....whats the catch??
If this is solid gold, Ill just buy it all and resell it to Midwest (just down the road) at a massive profit, and retire...LOL!
Obviously too good to be true.http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360005403634&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBSA:CA:1123

you should try it on one, you might have found a gold mine :D ;)

I think most of it is a ripoff, not pure solid gold but solid gold (plated) and they just forget to mention the plated part.

If it seems to good to be true, 99% of the time, it is not true I guess huh buddy.

On the other hand, if someone is looking for a nice piece of jewelry to wear out on the town, for $30 or whatever, the jewelry looks very expensive and you can wear it out and not worry about if it gets lost, stolen, whatever. So maybe then, it is a good deal. ?

Take care my friend and happy holidays.

Big storm tomorrow huh. Will you be out there plowing?

I think Ill give that a go.Once I get it Ill have someone at midwest test it.If its a scam, Ill report back to Ebay.Theyre pretty good about straightening out scammers.

Ok first off, buyer beware, if you are genuinely stupid enough to think you stumbled onto some sort of gold mine, then I have some prime beachf ront property to sell you in arizona...

with that said....

Solid gold, ok the item may be solid gold but the item itself is NOT solid. Many of the chains are hollow. Then again, many of them the photo is enlarged MANY times, I got a 'free' 10k gold bracelet from my credit card company. The picture looked real nice, wow this thing may have a few grams in it, ill go for it as my 'gift' .. when I got it, it was super fine tiny links, the entire thing did not weigh even a gram.

Technically it is not a scam, it is solid gold, (no mention of the item being solid) solid is used as a term for pure, as in not plated, and the pic enlarged, folks do that all the time to 'show you the detail'.

you are not getting gold for cheaper than it sells for. Coming out of china, in my opinion is immediately suspect to begin with. Marked Italy 10k, 14,.. a lot of the italy marked stuff is counterfeit or substandard to begin with. Not saying those items are, I do not know but there are known issues with the 'italy' marked stuff.

Buyer beware as always.

I bought some 9k white gold rings last year as gifts, they were 9k white gold plated.....and now look like sh!t.

*Nothing less than 10-karat gold can be legally marked or sold as gold jewelry in the United States. The legal requirements for minimum gold content vary widely country-by-country (e.g. 9 Karat is popular in Britain, while in France, Italy and Switzerland, 18k is the lowest permissible standard to be called gold).

So the rings I bought were illegal to sell in the USA. I never followed up with EBAY, I got them at a low price anyway. Live and learn.

One think to always be cautious about is gold and other valuable things from China.

My opinion.
First off, its too yellow for 18k. 18k is rich in color but should not look like fine gold, this is a give away for plate.
Second they dont show the hall mark.
Third, the "diamonds" in there have slight curves at the facets. Diamonds are very hard and take precision to cut. the edges will be sharp with a crisp edge like this > If you take a look on the larger stone the facets seem to have a slight curve too them on the edge, an indication that they are softer and machine cut and done fast, so fast that the stones get slight rounding on the facets edges when they roll to the next facet during cutting.
Forth, those are some of the nicest I2 stones I have ever seen. I2 means very included. And by industry standards an I2 stone will look like the crap you see at your local walmart. It will look like frozen spit or be filled with what looks like pepper. Just because the diamond grade is listed does not mean its going to be good diamond. It amazes me what little cards and Certificates do to sell crap.

Notice that in one line it states solid 18k gold and the next it says gold tone. Translation errors aside the auction cant keep its story or contradictions in order.

Then take a look at what other crap mr Chinaman is selling. All small crap and nickel and dime type items, most transactions under $20 to get that feedback, and also notice that the purchases that are gold are from Very low feedback profiles and also buy on other china sellers. Hmmmm.

Ok, now this outfit has multiple accounts, builds them up over a year or so selling small crap, and then right before xmas starts selling all these high end all 18k items worth thousands of dollars, for a couple weeks they can bring in thousands if not tens of thousands of dollars. Makes selling the piddly junk worth it for the next year...and how many other accounts do they have for the next one? probably a lot.

Also notice the construction of some of these items do not have soldered loops, or jump rings.
ALL HIGH END AND WELL MADE JEWELRY WILL HAVE SOLDERED OR CLOSED LOOPS! never will it be open or just bent on. This is a dead give away for plated or pot metal crap.

I already see one neutral feedback on there for one of the gold items...I doubt that they will even send them the junk jewelry, They are going to sell till the last min and then take what money they got and Ebay will close the account.

Keep in mind, the people from China take. they will not sell gold, a world wide commodity and sell it for less. These are people who take our money, our jobs. and companies, These people are taking our prosperity from right under our noses and we are thanking them for it..."because its cheap"
Just because something is cheap does not mean its quality...or worth having.

I would steer clear and report them to Ebay as a scam. If you dont believe me or value my knowledge or experience. Go ahead and buy it and prove me wrong...but dont cry to me when it does not show up or something fake does.

I cant tell you how many times someone comes to me with some crap they bought on ebay that they think is gold and want to sell it too me and then get to break the news too them they got scammed. Usually they are victims of fraud...with the exception of one time when I was on vacation in Vegas and some black guy in a car was like "Hey you like jewelry, check dis out. It worth about $15k and from a store up da street"

I looked at it, it was a $7 walmart plated ring that the guy had put a fancy little bar code tag on and a value of $15,000 The fake stones were so fake it was painful as well as the plate.
I took the ring and bent down to the ground and scratched the holy living F$$$ out of it and came back up and Said, "Look A$$ hole, I am a F$$$ing jewelry and know crap when I see it, its fake see!"

He then tried to grab it from me and said "gimme dat" and drive off at the same time. That didnt go to plan. As he drove off I took the ring and used it to scratch the side of his car! The white line on the black paint was a wonderful site to see as he sped off, I got the back door and back fender good!. I took the ring down the local Police and filed a report and gave it too them.

Fact is, there are people out there that will scam you and take your money, and of course they are going to offer satisfaction or your money back...the trick is. they dont mean what they say, they lie!

Sometime ago there was a post on here about Trade dollars coming from China.I myself bought a lot of these thinking hey i got a heck of a deal..
Turns out they were fake..every single one.......IF it sounds to good to be true then it is.....i would not even bother trying it as the stuff you get will not be worth the money you spend....
Anything being sold out of or through a rep that comes from china,i would pass on it.

If anyone checks back on this.......
I purchased an 18k solid gold bracelet from the seller previously seen in link.
I paid immediately with paypal and along with payment I added a message that it was my intent to verify the wieght and purity of the item, and, depending on the result, either become a repeat customer...... or........have them banned from Ebay.
I recieved notice from Paypal today that the seller had refunded my money with a note that the item was no longer in stock.???HMMM???

Take a look at the guys feedback and you will see that everyone who purchased that gold left a neutral feedback as this person says they are out of stock and promptly retrns thier money. Scam? Maybe.... or just some way for this guy to build up his ratings on ebay. Just my thoughts.

Ok that is steaming pile of shit there., BIG SCAM.......big big scam..
I mean think about it, if he is out of stock PULL THE AUCTION!!!

Did you get ALL your money back or did poo pal take out their small fees.??

technically, that is a renig on an auction, the item is out of stock, that is enough to ban him right there or get him a validated negative feedback... and an eventual ban....

avoid this one like a case of the clap.

I bought an carved amber frog last year for my wife as a stocking stuffer for Christmas from China off of that auction site. It was supposed to be an old piece carved out of fossilized amber with insect in it . Bought it cheap ,shipping carried a terrible price . The frog was to be 1 inch tall . Loooonnnng Wait ,past Christmas ,got Frog . I opened the box and this 3 inch tall plastic resin frog fell out in my hands. They put dirt and grass blades in it to make it look like real amber . Guess what, They sent me so bad of a fake I bust out laughing whenever I see it . Iv'e seen them selling all kinds of antique treasures from their country. Its all fake every bit of it ,some of the stuff is better fakes than others, but its still fake. The gold is the same if the seller is in China , Its all junk. Ive got some great gemstones from Asia but nothing good comes out of China .They have been faking coins there ever since they started trading with other countries, they were known to shave the coins to get a little silver or gold from each coin . This has been going on for hundreds of years if not longer .Its their culture, smile and rip off.Anyone want a deal on an ancient Chinese amber frog ?

Chinese made stuff is bad quality stuff.

No one is going to sell gold at below market place.

If you see a "bargain"...It is just that, a rip off.

I once bought something from E-bay and got the bargain I paid for: A counterfit, made in china poor quality product.

side note
now this "gold seller" has ALLLLLLLLLLL these peoples paypal info
Christmas come early in china i hear ?
