Hey Everyone,

This is was given to a friend of mine and they said came from a dump. It looks Asian and I think Chinese. One the back of the top, there are inserts for a piece I don't have. Lots of carving and clawed feet. I don't know what the wood is, but it's really, really heavy. The weight is what stood out the most.

Anyone have any thoughts?

To me it has a chippendale look to it. There is something called chinese chippendale but I forget what it is.

looks really nice now you need to look for a secret compartment maybe all that heavy might be treasure inside

Nice piece of furniture. I'd say it looks Chinese.

Good chance it's rosewood.

Very nice piece of furniture! :occasion14:

Thanks everyone! I'm always blown away by the knowledge here. I never heard of Chippendale Jepara, but after looking it up it does look like it.

I looked at it more and the joints underneath and drawers where not made with a high level of skill. It has also been damaged and repaired. See pics below.

Did a little more research and I think it may be a cheap / relatively modern piece made in Indonesia.

Let me know if anyone else has any thoughts.

My wife wants it gone, so may just put on CL for cheap.

So, it turns out this is probably late 19th century/early 20th century Chinese. It's a vanity that is missing the mirror. There is a extremely nice one on eBay with the mirror listed for $2K. My wife wanted it gone, so I sold it for a couple hundred....and she wanted to throw it out. :)
