China/US WW2? Pin

here is a small enamel screwback lapel pin featuring crossed US and chinese flags, as well as the word CHINA. i didn't have any luck researching this; based on the chinese flag design and other pieces found at the same time, i thought perhaps wwii but i turned up nothing. does anybody recognize this?
