I was digging on a 1902 property and I got a nice signal about 5 inches down. I dug it up and thought I had found an earing at first. I also assumed it was costume jewelry...because well that's how it seems to go. Anyway I put it in a safe place and kept digging. When I got home I was surprised at the design as it looked very old and was in remarkable condition. Looking for a stamp that might definitely rule it in/out as costume or real gold I could not find one. I assumed at that point it was costume. With some help from the local diggers in my area they advised the ring very possibly could be gold because of the antique look, the depth it was found and the condition. They further advised that before 1906 jewelry was not stamped. Deciding to find out once and for all I was determined to do the acid scratch test. Since all the jewelry stores were "appointment only" because of Covid I decided to order my own gold testing kit. And lo and behold it tested as 10k gold!
