Hi all The other week some earth works was in progess on private land near edge of the gold feild.local tar back roads are no meant for 20 ton earth movers. So to save damage, the earth mover used a clay fire controll track. The blade was wider that the track so a few trees and old tailing heaps had to be moved to gain access. Must have taken them days to get this monster a few miles.Once there was a Hard rock gold mine in the feild to the left called the Cherry Tree and below this was puddling machines and chiness hole potter miners. With the cooler weather the ground mineralization was not so active. Armed with a 12 inch Mono coil on a Gpx i had to go too manual settings to get the best out of the Minelab. Gain to the max 15 threshold at 6 o-clock. Feq between 95-115 Often have to click up or down a couple to clear the chatter from passing cars .Main road on the other side and those alternators can be a pain.

Hey Tin,
Wow! Those are gorgeous nuggets! Are you going to have that place to detect for awhile?
You will surely find more. Very nice! :hello2:

Hi slab Most of the gold was found on a patch which was covered by tailings from latter mining activity. patches of this nature is mostly what we look for these days, Gold has been mined here for 160 years. Takes me about month to clear an area like this. plenty of junk and lead. Lead is the killer sound much the same as gold on a GpX The only difference is the High- Low close induction is a little more aggressive.I give up depth having the small mono coil but removing the mulch which builds up around the gum trees agains me 6 inches more.Ground balance and keeping the coil right down is the trick. Coil skid plates are cheap and easy replaced.

You're forgetting about our Proclamation coins. We're blessed not only with gold but also with a chance to find basically any old world coins like Spanish cobs, Indian gold Pagodas, huge gold Johannas of Portugal etc not to mention that elusive sweet 8 reales with a cut-out centre.

Nice post and congrats on the gold and other nice finds! HH, Mike
