What is the difference between using baking soda or washing soda for the chemical electrolysis treatment?

I have read one method using baking soda, boiling water, aluminum foil and another method using washing soda, boiling water, and aluminum foil. Is there a significant difference? Is one method gentler than the other or more effective?

The baking soda variation says to wrap the coin in the aluminum foil. Do you have to put the baking soda with the coin and then wrap it?
