Read the overlook posts and got an idea. I know where there are 3 of them that have been closed. First one spent an hour and found 6 clad pennies! Second one, a clad penny and six pulltabs! Last one, weeds higher than my head, forgot to bring insect repellent and too chicken to wade in. It probably had the Holy Grail! Things don't always work out but that's what keeps it interesting. Still gloating over my silver ring find of yesterday! Tomorrow is another day. Scarlet O'hara ::) JIM

Jim, have you tried that one beach near Appalachia Bay on the west side of road and east of the last bridge coming in? Think it's just west of the dam crossing. I'm always seeing people fishing there and such. They park next to the highway and walk in though-probably 150 yards.

I know where you mean Jeff but the water is up in the lake and not much of it is above the water line right now.? They usually drop the water levels in August and I will reevaluate it then.? Usually the lake is down now but lots of rain out in western Kansas has kept the water level high or so the Corps office says.? JIM PS It is near the Apalacia Bay turn off but Apalacia Bay is a good ten miles from there! I know that lake like the back of my hand.

There is a nice overlook outside of Boulder Coloradothat I remember stopping at about 35 years ago when it was just dirt & gravel, and thought there might be stuff there. I did some quick searching to see if there was anything there to begin with, and maybe find a hot-spot.
I got some good signals but when I started recovering I discovered that the targets were underneath a heavy landscape fabric that was laid a couple years ago. I didn't want to tear up the weed barrier, so sometime in the future another THer might discover some good stuff. Funny now. Long, hot morning then.

? ? ? If these overlooks are like what they call vistas here, with a rockwall or a real genuine imitation rockwall that people like to stand at or on to get their picture taken. Then you might try along the outside base of the wall, providing there's not a cliff there. I've found a goodie or two that way, including a franklin half at one.? The ones i've tried were usually 6 ft or more down to the outside base, and unless they dropped a camera or car keys, it didn't appear it was worth it to anybody to walk around the end and down to the base and back.? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? HH

I've heard also that some people like to se them as wishing wells, tossing coins over the sides. A possibility maybe. ???

you may not have come up big this time jim,but that is the kind of thinking that can(and will) really pay off someday.finding those out of the way, off the beaten path spots.

No walls, no roads remaining and a cliff at two of them. The state had to close them because trees grew up and blocked the view. Feds wouldn't let them top the trees! So the state just tore up the roads and closed them down. JIM

? ? ? ? ? ?Assuming they were paved up to where they parked at the lookout. You might try the last 50 or a 100 ft or so of what would have been the shoulder of the road.?The slope of the road designed for water run off, lends itself to dropped coins rolling to the sides.? ? HH

Thanx for the tip. Right now the weeds are 8'tall! JIM
