Some time ago I saw a post of a wax seal recovery and I told myself I had to add one to my bucket list. Well yesterday afternoon I was able to check it off 😁😁😁. This was found on central Ohio, in a field. Any additional information on this recovery would be appreciated.

To be a seal, it has to be cut into the stone or surface, not sticking out.

Not sure what it came off though.

It has a Roman Style Head, copied in the Georgian/Victorian period. I think yours is late 19th C at earliest, but needs more research.

Well crusader I can say you officially burst my bubble. The site it was found at is early 1800. It has produced flat/tombac buttons and early 1800s coppers only. I was for sure I had a deal πŸ˜”

Maybe from a bolo tie?

On the plus side you have something different that I'm struggling to place how it was fixed to what? I think it worthy of starting a What Is It & just link this post to save time replicating. I would be interested to know what other expert opinions were on its function.
I'm not keen on the crude copper sleeve as being typically 18th C, but I've only seen a fraction of whats out there.

PS. My thoughts are until you have a full ID, you have no idea how rare it is, & I suspect its rarer than the Seal your trying to cross off.

Could be part of a 2 piece button too I suppose.
