Hello,
I was digging at a site yesterday and found this old cross, it looks like it is copper at the top where a chain goes through. But when I started to clean it the cross looks to be gold, So I stopped to get more info on it, The cross is the same on both sides and looks to have a heavy brown patina, Or whoever had it may have dipped it into something, Take a look and thanks for the help.

It looks like it is copper or brass with a gold plating. I'm sure it's not gold though. I would clean it in a mild dishwashing liquid. You can use a 50/50 mix of lemon juice and water. It works well but you have to watch it as if the cross is left in it to long it can start taking the gold plate off. Not sure how old it is but it is a cool find.

Considering where you are, it could be very old. Be very careful with the cleaning. I think it looks just fine the way it is. Nice find.
