Hey y'all,

The family trip this year was in Charleston, SC. We had a great time, we went to fort Sumter, the Provost dungeon, and lots of other fun stuff, here is what I found out in a courtyard by where we stayed. None appears to be valuable but it looks to be pretty old. They are all pottery fragments and would beings rested in know the age. All were on the ground in a grassy spot in the courtyard. Are they from an old trash dump?
Here are the pics

Some appears to be china. What about the red piece?

My favorites are the big china and the plate rim with the laurel imprint on it

Any info is much appreciated.

You've got some transfer ware and clay pottery. Possibly from a trash dump. Charleston is so full of history. I'm glad I live here.

What as the name of the place you stayed? That would help determine the area as to if it's landfill or not.

Charleston Place, but it was found on George St.

That's an old part of town, the fragments likely came from a dug up privy. Neat finds, I also pick up pieces like that when I find them.

How old do you think the pieces are, ekiesler?

That is were i lived for 48 years.I found a lot of that pottery on the ground while detecting. The pretty blue pottery could date in the 1700's.Charleston was founded in like 1690,so you figure.I dug my oldest coin on the outskirts,a 1702 coin.I dug a 1742,and that blue pottery was all around. To treasure hunt you would have to go in winter and read up on Goose Creek. This is were Swamp Fox was born.Black beards father also lived there.Plenty of wooded areas to hit for colonial relics and coins, but you have to hunt only in the winter due to lots of venomous snakes.I am sure you had a fun time in Charleston.

Very good find!
