Hi, this is my first post for well over a year...
On Sunday 15th April my two detecting friends and I had a 'one-off' chance to detect in a field that we'd never done before. The farmer said he planned ploughing the field this week, and that it would be seeded shortly afterwards. So it was Sunday 'only' or miss out.
We arrived at the field about 8:30am, and set off for the morning.
We didn't find anything special to be honest, just the normal range of Georgian & Victorian pennies (late 1700 / 1900's)....
Then (and just before we were due to pack it up), I hit the find of the day... A Charles 1st Hammered Silver Shilling. I knew the date would be early to mid 1600's (later confirmed as Tower Mint, London & 1645). Its the largest hammered coin I've found, measuring just over 31mm. Its details are now recorded on the UK Detector Finds Data-base (www.ukdfd.co.uk - Reference number 37151.
I just thought I'd share it with you all....
Nice to be back!

Very Nice Charlie :icon_thumleft: Sounds like the field you did has not been detected, the large coppers and this fine hammered are usually the first things to be found, I sugest you get back on that field, the first chance you get. :icon_thumleft:
