A couple of weeks ago I grabbed my Deus from the charger and headed out. When I turned it on to hunt, the coil indicator told me it was almost dead. I thought maybe I didn't have it on the charger properly, which is strange because I always double check to make sure it's on properly. Later that day I charged it again and no problem.

Last night I put it on the charger, it got 8 hours of charge. I wiped the contact points on the coil, made SURE it was a solid connection and charging. The light came on, beautiful.

This morning, after 8 hours, I turn it on and the coil only has half life! Any idea what's going on?

I hate to say it, but it sounds like the coil battery is taking a turn for the worse.... You may want to contact the service center and arrange for it to be checked out.

Thanks for you response, I will get in touch with XP.

I took the charger off, and tried again, and in an hour it was fully charged. The hardware all looks good, the little prongs are fine. Strange...

This happened to me before as well, almost exactly as your story, hasn't happened again with the coil - now it's the headphones and it's happened more than twice.

Well that's lame lol! My headphones and remote have had no problem at all. I did have my coil flat on the counter, I thought maybe the weight of the machine separated the connection slightly. Now I have been laying the machine down with the coil in the air so the charger thing stays tight on the coil. Seems to be fine, not sure if that was even the problem. I sure hope the headphones and remote don't get the same problem. I'm going to England next spring and the LAST thing I want is a dead detector!

I cant answer you question, hopefully when you get it resolved you can let us know.
On a couple occasions I didn't charge my machine after a long hunt and thought I could squeeze out another hunt or two and had my coil or heaphones die on me.
It also could have been due to my no turning off my remote or headphones properly and draining their life.
Now I usually try to recharge before every hunt.
Another precautionary measure I take is to always bring both coils and a set of earbuds, or at least keep them in the truck.
I haven't invested in one of those quick chargers, but having 2 coils is like having 2 sets of batteries, and its usually the coil that loses its charge first.
Oh and I did have an issue with the coil charger clip spring, which the XP service center resolved for me. Great customer service.
Good luck.

Seems to be fine charging it while the coil isn't flat on a surface. Hopefully it was just operator error. I usually charge before every hunt too, don't wanna get stuck with a dead unit!

What was wrong with your charge clip?

The clip spring bent and it wouldn't make good contact when bent. Probably due to me being in a rush and trying to force it onto the coil.
I called the serv center and they sent me a new one, no questions asked. They even told me to keep my old one.
I rebent the spring and continued to use my old one for a couple weeks, but it wouldn't always make good contact the first try.
I finally tried the new one and it makes good contact the first try, or at least 90% of the time. I just have to make sure the light on the coil is solid before walking away.
Oh, and I don't have to keep my coil on a flat surface to get good contact and make a good charge. Most of the time I throw it in my laundry basket which is right beside the wall receptacle I use to charge from.
