Did a lot of change hunting today(couple jars of coins) and had some good finds. Among them were 4 silver dimes, a few wheats and a 1945 P war nickel.

My question to those in the know is.....What are some key dates that jump to mind for pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters??

I need to know what to keep my eyes peeled for :o, in the future.

Thanks.

You might either want to purchase a book known as a Red Book-A Guide of United States Coins available at most book stores. It comes either spiral @ about $13 or the hardback @ about $16. The other alternitive is checking with your local library where you might check it out and study it. Some libraries call it a reference book and not able to take it home but it has all the key and semi-key coins listed. I know the 2005 issue is already out so get the latest you can. HH

I would get a red book if I were you. I would highly recommend the spiral edition if you can find it. It makes life a little easier when you are looking up coins.

The Red Book is a must, but a few of the key date coins would be the 1909-S and 09-S V.D.B, 1914-D, 1922 Plain and 1931-S pennies; the 1950-D nickel; 1946-S and 1949-S dimes, and the 1932-D quarter. I hope this helps, but like I said, the Red Book is a must. HH!

I just ordered a 2005 from ebay. You can always find 'em there.

Two other places to check out is WalMart (I purchased a 2004 Red Book from there), and Amazon.com.

have you checked out any major bookstores? Barnes and Nobles would be a good place to check out. Just a thougt :-)

redbooks are handy and can be found used at almost every library book sale, most coin shops, many flea markets, most used book stores, most charity thrift shops, etc. Only the prices change. The mintage figures and dates stay the same. Get one for a buck used and have one at home and one in the vehicle. Save the $15 or invest it in some helpful reading material. exanimo, ss

The Redbook is good, But, if your doing pocket change, I'd Go for Cherrypicker's Guide 4th, Edition Volume 2, Also, Keep your eye's peeled for the 69-S, and the 72-p Lincoln's.......

Hi Krumb. As far as searching for key dates in circulated coins I don't cause they are so hard to find since every other coin collector persons is doing the same thing as you. Sure you'll find some silver and wheats here and there, but you won't find many if any key dates. Good luck! Matt

TO HE #@$%^^%#@L with the RED BOOK............There is NO ONE gonna give you THAT price for a coin,,if you have it....Unless you get a retail from an ebayer.......
For A REAL WORLD price I get a 5 year Old one of these.................It's All any Coin dealer is gonna give ya.....Good Luck
