Had a good day both detecting and sifting. I started out sifting in an old dump, 1890's-1900's, and found doll parts, clay marbles, a few cool bottles, bottle stoppers, most of which were Lea & Perrins bottle stoppers. Found a really cool toy car, and then the hairs on my arms stood up when I pulled out a chainmail purse! It just ended up being full of dirt! LOL! Still cool tho! Best finds sifting were a neat silver plated watch fob, and best of all my 26th token of the year. (Henery Martin 204 w. Daly st. Walkerville, Mont. good for 5C drink) token is an EV8 which is $125-$250 in value! I got tired of digging so I went out to another spot to do some detecting and in an 6 foot area I found a 1897 barber dime, a 1890 seated dime, and a 1851(I think) seated half dime, Then REALLY deep at 8 inches I dug a really "iffy" signal, and dug up two really nice pictoral tokens! 27 & 28 for the year. (Good for a drink G & C) they have a dove with a olive branch on the back of them! I have dug more tokens this year than any other coin, it is really crazy! Later, I found a Anaconda Mining Co. tool tag for a lamp, these are also hard to come by. Now it is trying to snow, and I may be done for the year, but at least I felt like I went out with a BANG Haha! Thanks for looking! Oh, and if anyone can give me info on the little clay bear I found, let me know, I am putting it in the what'sit section. Thanks for looking! 2013-11-17 15.35.09.jpg2013-11-17 15.35.38.jpg2013-11-17 15.35.30.jpg2013-11-17 15.35.50.jpg2013-11-17 15.38.27.jpg2013-11-17 15.38.54.jpg2013-11-17 15.40.03.jpg2013-11-17 15.40.17.jpg2013-11-17 15.40.35.jpg2013-11-17 15.40.45.jpg2013-11-17 15.41.02.jpg2013-11-17 15.41.15.jpg2013-11-17 15.41.24.jpg2013-11-17 15.41.37.jpg2013-11-17 15.41.47.jpgForgot about the ring, I found so much today lol! It is marked 18k, but looks like someone got ripped off!!

Now that's a great hunt, congrats on some awesome finds.
ZDD

That's some fun diggin' right there! Nice batch of goodies for sure!

Oh my goodness ! What a day - Are you sure that the purse Isn't silver ? ( you didn't mention composition ) the reason I ask is because
massive numbers of these were ! Look carefully inside the clasp area (all along the inside rims at the top of the purse ) for the hallmarks.

That chainlink purse can go for a good price. Check to see if there is a metal tag inside the purse that would designate the maker.
I sold three of them last year for an average of $200 each. They appear to be over 100 years old.
Don.....

No, it is not silver, it appears to be brass to me, maybe copper but im leaning more toward brass. I cant clean it any more as it is falling apart. The reason I think brass, is the links that have fallen off have a gold look to the broken parts and the whole purse has a green patina, including the clasp.

Congrats on some really cool finds... looks like you got a nice collection of them on the Hunt

Those are awesome finds! Congrats !

Well done! When we dig privies and dumps I always do pretty well metal detecting the dirt. I tried to sift , didn't have enough patience. Congrats!

Nice finds. Your seated half dime has arrows at the date which means it's either 1853 or 1854. Great stuff. Although you may not get the colonials we get in the east, it shows there's still some great stuff in the ground in Montana. Way to go!

Nice assortment of finds, liking the sifting finds for sure. Well done with the detecting coinage as well, a really good day of digging.

These add up to one BIG happy dance -- CONGRATS!:occasion16::wav::occasion16: Terrific variety for your day! Nice inkwell.

First year detecting I dug a purse frame, pot metal with some remaining silvery "gilt" and constructed with ornate flower basket open designs. Mine had nothing attached to it -- no chain mail, no old cloth. Maybe cloth had totally rotted away. No coins in adjacent dirt, but about 10 yards away I later eyeballed my first silver, a 1923 Peace dollar. While that dollar was surface, the purse frame was about 6 inches deep, so maybe not related. BUT you may want to detect again for any old coins you may have missed in the general area near where your purse emerged. HAVE FUN! Andi

Im becoming a big advocate for sifting old dumps...even previously dug ones.....its amazing the stuff you don't see while digging....

What a great post! I'm like a kid in a candy store looking at all those recoveries. Not sure which one I like the best. :icon_scratch:
I love finding tokens too. Where do you find the rarity and values of tokens? Is it a book or website?

Congrats to you!
