Ok, I know what it is, but not exactly what it is.

I found this last week about 3 inches deep, in a heavily detected area. I don't have it in my possession because the landowner decided to keep it, so I can only give approximate dimensions. I took the pictures using my cell phone, so the pictures are not very high resolution.

The sword is approximately 32" long and 1" wide. The guard and pommel looks like it is made of brass and the handle is wood. In the middle of the guard there looks to be a V. The pommel has an eagle motif.

I would like more information on specifically what the sword is about, how old it is and what it was used for.

cool find but you got ripped , keep looking

They are showing their family. Even if I don't get it back, I made some good friends, and I will get to hunt their family farm that had an old settlement on it.

wow!! That is nothing less than awesome!! Looks a little Spanish or Mexican with that eagle on the handle! my guess it's not the only piece you're going to fine in that area! It's probably there for a reason. Those Spaniards just didn't drop their weapons without a reason!! Good luck! I'll bet you need to get real serious about where you're hunting! Things could get much better for you!!

Hi,

This looks to be a ceremonial sword belonging to a member of the Knights of the Golden Eagle. This would put it from about 1862 onwards so may well of been carried by a soldier in a Militia at the start of the CW.

The eagle pommel was a much prized design.

The V symbol is Masonic which fits in nicely.

Found an image of a Knights of the Golden Eagle's sword with the same eagle pommel. I think dating your sword will depend on finding any manufacturer's markings, as the order is still in existence today, although membership dropped drastically after the murder of President McKinley by a member.

I think that you all are right, it is a sword pertaining to the Knights of the Golden Eagle. I at first thought it was Masonic and I couldn't find a sword that looked like it when I looked up pictures of Masonic swords. When I looked up images of the Knights of the Golden Eagle swords, there were a bunch that looked like it.

When I get it back, I will clean up the blade and post any pictures of the blade markings to try and get a age and/or maker.

Thanks again.
