Playground from Hades. Last time out (September) dug 62 cents up before discriming them out and today (took a day off work), 79 more of the suckers before giving up on them again LOL. Just 2 quarters, 5 dimes and 7 nickels to give you an idea of the cent to clad ratio. Can't complain about the tot lot too much as I did find an 18K ring and a 14K bracelet over the years.

It's funny, because I hadn't hit a tot lot in months since detecting the woods all spring/summer, and after awhile I kinda felt that warm fuzzy nostalgic feeling whenever I opened the trunk for the M6 and kept seeing the Ace 250 laying there, neglected in favor of its bigger, meaner cousin. I remember hitting multiple tot lots on Saturdays, and coming home with a big heavy pocketful of clad. Not long ago, I rekindled my affinity for the Yellow Fellow and took it out to a tot lot nearby. I was disappointed at how few targets there were. I moved on to another playground, same thing. This continued a couple more times until finally, I gave up. There was something evident: more and more people are detecting nowadays! I remember tot lots being saturated with coins. I'd be lucky to come home with two dollars from one tot lot tour now.

Maybe I'll give it another try before the big long freeze. Woods hunting has definitely become my forte, but nothing gives up gold rings as easily as tot lots (well, except for beaches, but that's another story).

Good luck in those tot lots, Oz.

Hey Oz,
I've been looking at the empirical cycle regarding tot lots and there is a reality-based results table that can be gleaned from the evidence.

You'll have to factor socio-economic factors into your choice of tot lots for the highest yields. I have low-yield lots that do not warrant as frequent a visit as some of the high-yield lots is all I'm saying. And it is very neighborhood-dependent.

Lowbatts,

You are absolutely right regarding socio-economic factors affecting the yield of coins/jewelry lost and found at various tot lots, but that doesn't explain why tot lots once known for holding bountiful amounts of these items are apparently "drying up". The only explanation I have for these playgrounds is that, as I have stated, more and more people are being turned on to the hobby, probably by watching TreasureFiend's videos. Man, that guy is ruining this hobby! Pretty soon we won't be able to hunt the tot lots! LOL JK!

But yeah, it sucks. I'd like to find a gold ring by year's end, we'll see.

Tim, you should work in a technical field writing documentation for things that can't tread water without good specsmanship placed upon them. You would be, how do they say... "money" at it. It is your natural born skill ;)
