After our Central Texas Treasure Club's monthly business meeting on March 6th, we will have a program about vintage metal detectors from the 60s, 70s, and early 80s. Members are encouraged to bring any vintage detectors that you have to this meeting to display during the program. We won't have as many detectors as this fellow had or we wouldn't have any room left in the meeting room. ha.

Our Central Texas Treasure Club held its regular monthly meeting this past Tuesday. We took orders for new club t-shirts and passed out our new club business cards to the members present. Our cards have our club's contact information on them so they will help members gain permission to hunt new sites and will aid in recruiting new metal detecting enthusiasts to join us.

We held our regular monthly meeting of the Central Texas Treasure Club this past Tuesday, May 1st. We had 21 people in attendance and Michael Heim, President of the Texas Association of Metal Detecting Clubs, gave our program and donated 3 nice prices to our monthly door prize drawing. This is a photo of Michael addressing our club.

If you know someone who's interested in treasure hunting and metal detecting, be sure to bring them to our June 5th meeting. In addition to the 3 Gold Coin raffle prizes that will be given away to three lucky winners, we'll also be giving away a beautiful 1964 - 90% silver 1964 Kennedy half dollar to the door prize winner plus 2 additional smaller prizes will go to the next two winning tickets drawn. Non-members can purchase door prize tickets for a $1 donation per ticket. Proceeds from the Door Prize Drawing go to pay our meeting room rent. I'll also be giving away a "Surprise Prize" to an active member. New members who join at this meeting will be given a book by Charles Garrett, courtesy of Garrett Metal Detectors who donated the books to help in our recruitment drive. Members are encouraged to also enter the Marble Drawing at this meeting because there's a very good possibility that a lucky member will draw the red marble and split the big pot with our club that night. There will be winners everywhere at the June 5th meeting!

I had a great time at today's Central Texas Treasure Club's Picnic at the beautiful Comanche (Texas) City Park and I think everyone else that attended did too. I didn't count but I'd estimate that we had about 20 people in attendance there today. A big "Thank You" goes out to Don and Janice Sims, our members who organized and carried out this very nice event for our club. Our club's Secretary Max Richardson established a new activity for our club which I believe will become a fun tradition for years to come. He buried a small treasure cache at a spot inside of the huge park and at 11:00 a.m. gave all the attendees one clue to help them narrow down their search. Our member Jerome Spencer took that single clue and was able to locate the cache within a very short period of time. As the winner, he gets to keep all of the items in the cache jar and will prepare the next cache, bury it, and give his clues to those in attendance at our next regular monthly club meeting on Tuesday, July 3rd. Members John and Dawn Meeks' son John David found a nice Eisenhower dollar coin and a buffalo nickel while detecting in the park during the event. These coins were not buried by the club in advance. The only prize we buried was the treasure cache. He left all of us "old pros" in the dust today.

:) Congratulations to Jerome and John David! Max, Ralph, and I carpooled to the Picnic and when we left about 1:15, several members were still enjoying their time in the park.
If you live anywhere in the Central Texas area and have an interest in metal detecting/treasure hunting, I urge you to join our club. If you join and participate in at least some of our many activities and meetings, it will be the best $20 you spend this year. Individual and Family Memberships are good for an entire 12-month period.

Our CTTC member Jerome Spencer at our club's Real World Detecting Workshop on July 7th. Co-host of the special event Max Richardson looks on as Jerome digs another World War II relic from Brownwood's Camp Bowie. I don't think Jerome has missed a club meeting this year and I know he hasn't missed any club events. He's always willing to help our club any way he can. Be like Jerome.
If you live anywhere in the Central Texas area, I encourage you to join and support our club which is based in Brownwood, Texas. Our next regular monthly meeting will be on August 7th at 6:30 p.m. at the Early Chamber of Commerce Bldg. at 104 E. Industrial Blvd. in Early which is adjacent to Brownwood. In addition to our monthly meetings on the first Tuesday of each month, we are planning special club events for every month of this year. On October 13th, we will hold our CTTC Open Competition Hunt where we will be giving away 2 new metal detectors, lots of silver coins, and many other prizes! By becoming a member, you'll receive our monthly newsletter, important announcements to our club's special events, and flyers for each of our Open Competition Hunts.
