Well, I was hoping that Dad was going to be able to go with me to the old farm today but temp was in the 50's and a little breezy. Dad is 72 and I didn't think he should be out as he still has a little bronchitus. He was also feeling a little bit mortal I think. He wanted to stay and work on the family tree which has been his hobby since retirement. So I didn't get to get much hunting in. The farm has been in the family's possession since the Land Run. http://www.ok-history.mus.ok.us/enc/landrun.htm
So I went alone.
I didn't find any horse or mule shoes as my great grandfather couldn't afford the animals at that time. Instead, he grew 10 farmhands-6 boys and 4 girls. What he did was to hook 3 of the boys up to a single bottom plow and when they got tired, the other 3 traded places.
I didn't find any coins at this point. I think it was because they didn't carry change around when milking the cow and gathering eggs. But who knows, there's still 159 3/4 acres to check yet.
These pics show the original house that he built and the bunkhouse where my great uncles slept since there were 12 in the family and the house was only 2 bedrooms.
There had been the original barn, but the tenants daughter burned it down a few years back.
The only thing I found was an old barrel spigot (I think). The valve is missing but otherwise is in pretty good shape. I had to be careful hunting because it's still deer season and I forgot to grab my orange vest. Wasn't thinking and had grabbed my tan coat instead. (Just a safety tip-mud washes off when you get home, bullet holes don't.)
