A couple of weeks ago I put up a post about finding an old cemetery. This was located pretty deep in the woods, and at least a mile from any existing structure, or currently used road. There is one "memorial marker" that has visible writing on it that appears to have been put there well after the fact, and has 8 names on it, all from the same family. The rest of the graves are marked by upright stones, with no visible writing. Many of the graves show depressions from the caskets rotting away and collapsing. When I was first there, my camera took a dive, so the pics were limited. It turns out that this was not caused by the spirits protecting their secrecy and solitude, as my good camera functioned fine.

Several folks here mentioned contacting the local historical society, which I agree would probably be a good idea, however, since this is not my property, and it could have potential ramifications for the property owner, I'll leave it up to him to do whatever he chooses with the knowledge of it's existence.

Hope you enjoy the pics.

I remember your post DC, thanks for the followup.

While it is the property owners decision to contact the historical society, it would be a shame for the Smith's descendents should that site become forgotten again. I hope they can be convinced.

You may be suprised but...check a local USGS topo map. I used to love going to old cemetaries and used the topos to find them. One was in a fork in the road, so overgrown I passed it half a dozen times thinking I was in the wrong place.

But it was on the map. I trudged thru the brambles and there it was!

And no....I wasn't detecting them....just another one of my hobbies.
