There's a local park by me that has a swimming area in it that has been closed for about 15 years (fenced in). Prior to it closing it was open since my parents were kids back in the 50s. As far as I know it's never been detected over the years and since it's been closed down, it's all locked up. My luck changed the other day when they opened it up as a new dog park (the fence was already there, why not?) I already had permission to hunt in the park so it was a given I could go in there, it's part of the same park. After 2 hours I didn't do as well as I would have expected for a place I thought hadn't been touched, but I came away with 17 pennies 3 nickels and a silver cross stamped 925 Solvar on the back. I looked it up online and it sells for $89 new at one site, but that includes a chain too, which I didn't find, and mine is missing one of the fake diamonds. Still a decent find anyway...

Very nice cross but if you can find it on line
today i think maybe someone else has been
inside the fence since it was locked.

I used an Ace 250 with the standard coil. This one was about 6 inches from the edge of the water about 4 inches down in the sand.

As to Jimbob's comment, I thought the same thing, either this piece is REALLY popular and they've been making it for at least the last 15 years, the place selling it just has a bunch they are still trying to get rid of, or, my worst fear, someone else got there first (which would explain only 17 pennies and 3 nickels after 2 hours part). If you go to the Solvar website they don't make this piece any more so I'm holding on to the hope that it really has been in there for 15 years, but like you said, it's more than likely newer...
