decided to go back to the pounded sites me & forino hit yesterday.i was determined to find something at them.one site gave up one flatty & a convex button, the next site gave up the large tombac with broken shank.3 rd site nothing.
on the way up i saw a cellar hole near road with a house set way back behind it.
on the way home i got up the courage to knock on the door.guy answers and i told him what i'd like to do.he said "I'll make ya a deal..If you can locate my inground sprinkler heads in back yard you can knock yourself out"
Located all 6 of the sprinklers and had one hour left of daylight.he thanked mw & I thanked him and off I went. alot of trash since it's so close to road but managed a few decent targets. a huge oxen? ring.this ring sure had it's share of work see the wear spot? a nice designed colonial dandy button with gold gilt still left in the design, a few flat buttons one silvered ,a old SUNBRITE soda bottle waterbury ,conn.and a cool old lock.not a bad day but, not a great day either.

Keep on Digging!!

:icon_scratch: That ox ring is a biggin' :D looks like a good start for some future good stuff :headbang:

What, no coppers General? A bad day to you this year is a great day for the majority of hunters on Tnet. That lock is Tiny!! That will look good in your collection. No mark on lockplate? Good hunt. HH, Quindy.

Very interesting finds today Dave! :hello2:
I really like the a huge oxen ring, that's one amazing wear spot! :o

Love the colonial dandy button with gold gilt, the old SUNBRITE soda bottle and the old lock! :notworthy:

Good luck tomorrow,
Dave

no mark on lock at all.how old ya think? early 1800's?

I don't have a lock book HMN but these are all associated with CW sites as pictured in Lord's CW Encyclopedia Vol. III. I'm guessing your little lock is pre CW but I don't profess to be a relic expert. . HH, Quindy.

Yep,they pop up in mid 1850's sites and are often called keg/barrel locks.Out of probably 50 of the the normal sized ones I have only dug two but know of one site that turned up 7
