Hey what is up everybody:hello:

I have been hitting some random spots lately and pulled some interesting finds:thumbsup:

Hit a cellar right at the end of a rural road and to my surprise it was not pounded to death:laughing7:

Grabbed a 1840 William Harrison campaign button:headbang:

Some sweet Dandy buttons..One is odd:icon_scratch:
I never seen one with the center sticking out..At first i thought horse gear but the back confirms it is a button.

Pulled a bunch of Flatties one Tombac.

A sterling silver thin band for something??

Nice Merc:thumbsup:

Some cool iron including a Colonial iron stirrup very small..I think Colonial..

And a strange early Cross:confused:

It is very thick cast and about 3 inches tall..What really freaks me out is the skull and crossbones at the bottom:icon_scratch:

The inside is a strange material too i think maybe bone...Any ideas??

Have fun out there the green is dying off and its time to go hit some early Colonial Cellars:icon_thumleft:

Great finds!! Love the campaign token. Those things are sweet looking.

WTG JB! No idea on why the cross has a skull & cross bones. Perhaps to signify Jesus triumphed over death? The sterling band is vey interesting.

Nice finds and great site pictures. I like that token.

the skull is from the early church some believed the bones of adam were under the cross jesus was crucified on..i just looked that up because i have a cross with the skull below it too...great finds!!!

Epic recoveries as always! The crucifix skull and crossbones reminds me of the many 1700s gravestones . I agree with Rebel, " Perhaps to signify Jesus triumphed over death" seems to be most likely. Love your post over the years, keep em coming.

Great finds Johnny !!! That old crucifix is amazing - I think it's a monk or nun's cross - given to those living in a religious community , I'm
betting that the interior material is wood - I too always heard the skull and crossbones was symbolic of Christ's triumph over death and the
grave . Hey that silver band is cool too - any chance you could put up some close ups of those hallmarks ? I think it's quite old - and you can
likely get a date letter off it - looks to be English - The 1917 merc rocks ! (the newcomer with these finds)

Good stuff JB! I just dug a 1917 merc myself this past Tuesday!

Thanks man:thumbsup:

If the inside was wood it WOOD have been gone long ago..:O)

Well , I guess that material could be ivory - you're probably right that wood likely couldn't have lasted this long .

Great finds the JB, the cross is really cool. That CH is in great shape, the ones I have found are usually just pits and full of trash.
Your right about the green, it's almost time to hit the woods.

A nice variety of finds spanning many decades of American History JB!! That stirrup looks early 1800s. Nice buttons as well. Good post & pics as usual. WTG, Q.

Great finds JB:thumbsup: Are you using the big coil on these hunts and if so how much deeper do you think you are getting compared to the 11" coil?

I've found quite a few silver bands similar to to yours and used to think they were from utensils (too small to be a napkin ring) but then one day I was googling tobacco pipes and noticed the same silver band on a certain type of pipe. I forget the name.
Also, some swaggard sticks or canes had a similar silver piece.
That cross is quite old.
Nice finds!
Cheers,
Dave.

Nice variety of goodies, even the iron, never found a stirrup.

Maybe that's what they call nipple button ??
