Can I see the back of the letter "N" with something in the photo for a size reference or dimensions? That may be a Civil War company letter, which would be by FAR the find of the day in that condition!

That would be correct. Next time I hunt one I will take some photos

Here is a photo of the back. It measures roughly 2"x2". Let me know if you have any idea what it is from.

Seems a little large for a company letter. I'm thinking saddle or horse leather decoration.
