Cellar hole find, any ideas on what this is? Rim fire cartridge?

5/8in in diameter and 2 inches long. Hollow tube; inside of circular end looks like the inside of a shotgun shell in a way. Made of brass, very thin. Rectangular lines on one end, both on the inside and outside. Looks like some sort of rim fire cartridge?

I think it is the remains of an old brass or copper house fuse , like a Buss fuse.
