OK can you help--- I have tried to post pictures, and can't--- I got a new toy, Roxio CD-RW. I copied all my pictures to CD's and left the original's on my computer. then computer crashes and when I put them back in, I realized the photo's are "Read Only". I didn't format them and drag to disc, DUH, being new with this toy, didn't know better.
NOW-- is there a way I can re-due my mess up. In "Read Only" I can't change the picture size and others can't open CD's.

Thanks for Your Help

You don't indicate the operatiing system, but I will assume it is windows.

Once your system has initialized, start a command window.

In the command window issue change directory commands to get to the location of all your photos.

When you are within the right subdirectiy on your hard drive issue the following command:

attrib -R *.*

The effect is to reset the read only attribute on all files in that directory.

This will NOT work on the CD, all CD files are read only, once they've been written.

If you need further assistance, please post and I will PM my phone number. I can walk you through the process over the phone.

BillKY--- I am sorry but, I am toally ignorant when it comes to this computer stuff. Please e-mail me your phone and the best time of evening to call. (Your Time) I am Totally ignorant with computers.

Thnaks for the help.

Hi Amanda -

Really simple, no need for all the command prompt etc. in Windows.

Insert the CD and choose "View files on CD" or "Open Folder to view files". Once the explorer window opens, hold down the Control key [Ctrl] and press the [A] key. This should highlight all of the files. Let the keys go and they will stay highlighted.

Next, hold down the [Ctrl] and press the [C] key. Release the keys.

Open "My Computer" and find the hard drive (usually drive C:). Double click on that drive. Click on the other mouse button (on the right side) which will bring up a list of options. Choose "New Folder". When it makes the new folder you will be able to give it a name.

Now, open the folder by double clicking the left mouse button. Once it is open, hold down the [Shift] key and then press the [Insert] (it is marked [Ins] on some computers) key. This will place a copy of all of the pictures and folders that were on the CD in this folder.

Hold down the [CTRL] key again and press [A]. Place your cursor on any one of the highlighted files and click the right mouse button once. The last item on the list that opens up is "Properties", click on it. In the small window that opens you will see "Attributes" about 2/3 of the way down. Make sure there is no colored box inside of the box that says "Read only" or the one that says "Hidden". Click "OK" and you are done.

Hope this helps.

If not, PM me and I can set up a chat page to walk you through it in real time.
