oh no, this sounds just like the one jerk who was scamming folks here, he comes and goes and uses many user names.. am sure others will chime in on this..but NEVER send out anything till you receive pmt.. I am truly sorry for your friends loss.. lesson learned the hard way.. that sucks.

Thanks Bootybay..Al, being kinda new to detecting didn't know any better. He thought it was a reputable person from the forum. Name, phone # etc.. Just found out the phone is a throw away Tracphone from WalMart.. He did a reverse number check. So this guy must be cheating others if he went to this extent for contact.. Shoot it had the makings of a good sale.. This was only about 85 dollars worth of items...Fisher Cz coil 5" very used, a fisher coil cover, and a some kind of wire for headphones for the CZ. .......... lesson learned, it could have been a Fisher Detector..but he gave that to his grandson. Be carefull please everyone...

Has anyone ever sent money for a detector on these post and been ripped off?
What is the best way to make a transaction here if buyer and seller do not know each other and both live in different states?

buy from a dealer...if you looking for new...4H in North Carolina can pretty much hook you up....

if you want used...use a dealer that advertises here on tnet...they will send you lots of pics if needed, tracking numbers, take credit cards,
some dealers will take used (as in pretty nice machines) and add a little bit and then post them here for sale.....
if you looking for something in particular post a wanted add in the dealer section and see if any one has that model for sale...

There are other precautions to make when dealing with private owners. Such as checking the amount of posts on this and other forums or maybe see if another member has dealt with or can vouch for him/her. Personally, if I see 50 or so posts and a member for 6 mos or more, I'm more comfortable with dealing with that person. Also, see if the member is affiliated with any MD groups in the area. If there has been previous transactions on this forum, physically go through the classifieds and look at what transpired, that's what the smileys and checks are for!! When buying, I always use paypal unless I see transactions that went well in the past with that person using a money order. When selling, I never ship until money is in hand. With private parties, you will have some people backing out ( ie finances, wife/hubby changes mind, etc...) but that's to be expected. But you can get some great deals from private parties as you are buying 1st hand. Not to the knock dealers, they are top notch on here especially, and they are more than willing to help steer you into the right detector for you if you are uncertain as to which unit to buy. I think most on here are good, honest people, just be sharp.

I hope this helps to those who are reluctant to purchase from private parties via the forum.

Just so all know. My friend has decided to prosecute this theft. He has contacted the local prosecutor.
He has asked that I give no more information till he has exhausted his legal avenues. Thanks all, And I will for certain follow through when he gives me the go ahead.. Be very careful who you send to in Oregon. Sorry all you honest people in Oregon. I know it is only one bad out of many, many good solid people.
