My buddy found this medal and I found out it is on the letter head of the Catholic church. Can any one tell me why they handed them out and do they still do this as this thing was down around 10 inches according to my buddy. thanks

Here's one with additional typeface but the same pattern, it's a 100th anniversary token. It sold for 19.99 a couple years ago. Yours may be an older original 1879 version? Wishful thinking anyways!
