In a castle named Glen Eyrie in Colorado Springs that was built by the city's founder General William Palmer, there is this piece of furniture that no one seems to know for sure what its function was.

It approximately 3 feet by 2 1/2 feet. It has double exterior doors and double interior doors (see photo). It is super heavy as vandals stole most of his furniture when the castle laid vacant. But this they left because it is practically immovable.

Any thoughts on its use? I have heard others suggest a cigar holder or a plate warmer. IMG_7575.jpgIMG_7576.jpgIMG_7574.jpg

I work in the furniture industry. It's a general purpose "table cabinet". If it's real heavy it must be all solid wood, and lots of it, and might be worth some money.

This is not a coffee table, it's too high. It's not a table you sit it. It must be some type of side table.

Hi farmgirl. Nice. Two layers of wood show this piece to have had a distinct purpose other than just furniture. The inner doors appear to be cedar, something your friend caught, which would be correct for a tobacco humidor. The back and the bottom of the interior (we can't see the interior top or sides) is not the same wood and it does not seem to show any real signs of wear. Did you buy this from a dealer? If so, it may be that those inner pieces were replaced just to get rid of smells, and the inner doors were saved because of the genuine and pretty paneling? It may also be why there is no evidence of drawers once being there. "Plate warmer" seems a little far fetched, not just because of the cedar, but because trying to lift plates out of something so low to the floor would be a real back breaker.
