A very curious piece.

This cast brass piece was designed to be decorative and functional. It was mounted to a flat surface with three iron screws. Perpendicular to the mounting face is an arm with a receiving cutout, made to match with a round pin, presumably attached to something supported by a rod. This was found in Baltimore city on the east side of Hampden, a neighborhood established from the 19th century mill industry along the Jones Falls river valley.

Not to derail the thread, But do you know of any groups that hunt together around here? I am just north of baltimore and I would like to hunt with others.

Thanks for the derailing post. I know that the Maryland FreeState Treasure Club holds monthly hunts. Their next meeting should be the last Thursday in April. Check out their webpage for more details.

Cars Early enough to use Brass instead of Chrome would not have sun visors? THose came much later that the brass era.
Because the item still has the rusted screws in it, it means it rotted in the ground with what ever it was attached to, which would leave me to believe Wood (now gone).
A right left pair of these with a brass or wood rod in between would make a nice mini rail on the top of a piece of serving furniture to prevent things from slipping off or some kind of carriage rail trim, doily rod, etc?

My thoughts
Cheers

Actually the item doesn't look like brass, more like white pot metal(see second pic)
A 40s/50s car is more than possible

That still doesn't explain why the screws are still in it? I doubt the car rotted away from the pin?
Just observing. I do think it could also be a pivot point but it still has the screws in it so I don't think it was mounted to metal.

Cheers All
