Hope this is the correct forum to post this type of thing. My detector is in the shop for repair, so I haven't been able to swing for a week or better now. Went with my wife to our local Safeway and clanced over at the Coin Star machine. It had an "Out of Order" sign, but when I looked in the coin return slot I found these! Nothing old or of worth, but I still got a rush!! (not quite the same as finding coins buried in the dirt!) There is $2.08 there, that is better than some recent hunts I've gone on! ;D

oh, there was a public bathroom token, a Canadian penny and a one cent Eruo. ;D

Welcome aboard Ron. Is there a CB base up near Santa Cruz? Or are you retired? I spent 4 years in the fleet and 4 more with RNMCB16 in Los Alamitos, CA 8)

Thanks for looking cyberdan! No, there is not a base up this way. I was a Bee from '69 - '73, after Boot in SD, went to EO "A" School in Port Hueneme. Had some other duty stations as well, last being with MCB 10, again out of Hueneme. A couple of other spots were Fallon,NV and Adak,AK(Brrrrr)
I am retired, but not from the Navy, just work!!

I was in the fleet (Tonkin Gulf) the same years you were in. Then went into CB reserves. I was a photographer most of the time. Good duty ;D

My son-in-law is stationed in Fallon (Navy Air). My daughter and grand-daughter live there too. I did some CRHing there in September. Found a little silver.

I always check the Coinstar machines and frequently find one or two coins in the reject tray. The one nearest to me has a big sign taped to it reminding customers of the reject tray. I've thought of ripping it off. I was out of town for Christmas and checked the reject tray of a Coinstar machine in the local grocery store and found $5.03! None of it was bent, sticky, or otherwise "rejectable", so I don't know why it ended up there.
Once, I asked one of the local store employees about the rejects and she told me that kids are always checking it. She also said that when the person comes to empty the machine, the inside is full of loose coins and they don't bother to gather them up, they just leave them until it breaks and the repairman cleans it out.

Nice amount of change. I always go out of my way to look in those reject bins, especially with the older model ones that don't speak back to you. I have a jar with all of my finds from coinstar. the best part about always looking is that your bound to find a silver dime. I cannot understand how someone doesn't acknowledge that a handful of change is being spit out right under their nose. Happy Hunting, I think I'm going to make a trip to safeway ;)
