I found this lead item deep in the ground at one of my Colonial spots. It was under a massive root and took most of my hunt hour to get out. I was also able to get a tombac and a musket ball. I was thinking it was a sinker but the more I look at it the less I think it is. Way to much work went into it. Any ideas on what it is? Thanks

I've found similar bars at old sites..one had a picture of a fish carved in it....probably used for molding round balls.

Congrats on your tombac button and a musket ball finds digger.
I can just imagine how sweet that piece of lead must've sounded in the headphones, probably just like a silver coin! :laughing7:

Anyone who detects old homesteads has found a ton of lead, I also know that it can come in all shapes and sizes.
A wise man once told me that, "lead is your friend" when it comes to locating old sites.

My first impression is that this is a lead sinker with the top broken off where the line ran through... but who knows. :dontknow:
