Interesting. I was just reading about holes in rock like that at Stonehenge. They think they were to keep the legs of a crane from slipping. Maybe yours were the base of a scaffold? Just a wild guess. Maybe they marked their spot with a dot, then cut outline to make hole. Then changed location and made square holes farther over. It’s early an my imagination is ahead of my first cup of coffee!😜
 

Dark..in pic #1 the two holes are both sloping the same direction, and square cut in the other. Don't know if that's significant, but it's interesting all the same.

Any chance you could get pics with a better camera than the one in your Motorola phone? The shape of the other images remind me of 2nd base.

Yeah I can't argue none of that,lol,thanks, you've givin' me a whole new outlook on it.

Only camera I have but I'll go try to take better shots for ya.

they do seem to be functional s opposed to decorative.

I would agree. Those squarish holes look like they could have been bases for a (roughly) 4x4 sized post.
