Shot shell headstamps are date-able, so you can get a time span of use in the area. Rifle shells too can be dated, plus the weapon make/model too…
 

Gotta dig the junk to find the good stuff... no way to dismiss them without missing relics and coins. I dig, haul home, and throw away hundreds if not thousands of shotgun shell hulls and modern cartridges every year. I do save the buckshot and modern bullets for a friend that uses them in his Lemat.
