it's got a Clear Plastic coating type Look , By looks of Age, Possibly Bakelite if Not Plastic. I wouldn't rule out Gold Flake under it. But Maybe just Wishful Thinking

Yeah , it could be gold leaf - with a clear acrylic over it to protect it from wear and tear .

Your silver is there, its just napping in certain places people don't walk on any more, those out of way, off the beaten path ones.

Good thing the jolly green giant doesn't want the ring back.
