One of our local carnivals ended on Saturday night. I didn't have to work like I did a couple of weeks ago with the last carnival so I was determined to get up early and be the first one there in the morning. I got there around 7:00 AM and found one of the men in charge of the cleanup. I asked him if it would be alright to detect the grounds since they were almost finished carting everything away. He told me they had some plans for the grounds for the day and I should come back tomorrow when they were finished. I was a little disappointed but what could I do. I stay and chatted a bit with him and just as I was about to head back to my car, this older couple drives up, and proceed to get out of the car, detector in hand and head over to the grounds. I looked at the guy in charge and he just turned to me and told me I might as well go do what I had to do since these people were her.
I went to my car, got my detector and went to speak to the couple. They were very nice. It turns out that they've had trouble with the man I was talking to before and they actually had to go over his head to one of the guys in charge at the fire station and get a letter saying they were allowed to detect the grounds. It seems that the guy I was talking to wouldn't let them detect before. It also seems the guy I was first talking to has a detector himself and we came to the conclusion that he didn't want anyone else detecting this carnival.
Needless to say, we didn't find much. I walked away with just over $2 in clad. The three of us figure that this guy was out every night after the carnival shut down and picked up everything he could. This was a big carnival too, I was a little disappointed but I did met some fellow detectorists who I'm sure I'll be seeing around as there is still one more carnival in the area this summer.
