Darren in NC said:For the most part, pirates saw themselves as free men - just as sovereign as any nation. They believed they had the same rights as any gov't to conquer and make a life however they deemed necessary. There was a great deal of respect for each other, and they did have a code of honor. They didn't mind enjoying the fruit of their labor. This fact doesn't make headlines, so the darker side of rape, pillaging and murder always made headlines. As a result, most believe the darker side was all there was to a pirate's life. It's a shame, really. The same people who reported a one-sided view lived under (or worked for) a gov't that did these exact things under the cover of the law.
There is within the heart of every man to be free. Free from oppression. Free from tyranny. Free to see justice rule between men and not the corruption so often found by those in power. In that freedom, we can enjoy justice, mercy and a code of honor that inspires a respectable lifestyle. I know of no gov't that inspires today. I live in the real world, but in my heart I, too, am a pirate.
Live free,

Just look around a little...
Only the technology changes with time....
folks pretty much stay the same.... the cattle chew on grass, remain flatulent and moo
and the rats continue to guard the cheese...
Dominic Strouse Carne is on the way back to France
and the maid who serviced him will most probably
become a porn star....
whats new....

"...Damn ye, you are a sneaking Puppy, and so are all those who will
submit to be governed by Laws which rich men have made for their own
Security, for the cowardly whelps have not the courage to
defend what they get by their knavery; but damn ye altogether. Damn
them for a pack of crafty rascals, and you who serve them, for
a parcel of hen-hearted Numskulls. They vilify us, the scoundrels
do, when there is only this difference: They rob the poor under the
cover of Law, forsooth, and we plunder the rich under the protection
of our own Courage. Had ye not better make One of us,
than sneak after the Asses of those villains for Employment?"
I wished I was there to hear and see it.
