It’s time that I upgrade my old 6” round sand scoop and after researching a variety of available scoops, I’ve decided to go with the Xtreme SS Surf Master Plus.

The scoop comes with a carbon fiber shaft, in either a 1-piece straight shaft, or a 2-piece shaft for travel.

I really like the idea of having a travel shaft and being able to break the scoop down into a smaller, more manageable size. But coming from using a scoop with a straight shaft, I’m just wondering about the strength of the travel shaft after coupling 2 smaller shafts together.

Anyone have experience with Xtreme’s carbon fiber travel shafts?

Will the 2-piece travel shaft be able to offer the same strength as the straight shaft, i.e., do I have anything to worry about or will I have to take it easier than if using a straight shaft when digging in dry & wet sand?

Top shelf stuff! I just got the XTREME titanium, plus with the travel handle! The Trident shafts are incredible. Even the travel shaft is super hard-core. having it for about a week or so and hunted every day. The only con is that once in a while,it will be turned the wrong way and get a little loose. I picked the travel shaft because it’s the best travel shaft my opinionand it was the best bang for the buck when I bought the scoop with it, paired together you get a 10 year warrant! Ideally, I wanna get the other one piece trident. I do have some ash wood shafts I can use. They are good for water hunting. They’re great scoops. I’m sure the stainless steel is excellent. Good luck&have fun!

Thanks surfnturf. Man, I'm loving the Xtreme scoops, they just seem to be the sh*t. I just watched a couple more videos and the shafts on the Xtreme's look friggin' thick. I don't think I'll have anything to worry about with the travel shaft, the bolt connecting the 2 pieces looks huge, like it came off a semi-truck, lol.

I've been looking heavily at the SS Surf Master Plus, but damn, Titanium is starting to whisper in my ear. Not worried about the cost, I'm 67 and I guess the lighter weight would be better for my arm and shoulder. I'll keep telling myself that and will probably wind up ordering the Titanium All Terrain Plus, lol.

Quick question: the images of the scoops show 2 support rods welded at the front of the scoop per side. But videos I've seen of the same scoops only had 1 support rod in the front per side. These videos were a few years old so may Xtreme upgraded the buckets by adding an additional support rod per side. Does yours have 2 rods per side in the front?

That would be a yes, and yes, get the titanium. It’s worth it. It’s lighter. Yes, they added an extra support!!

At 77 years of age, the titanium should have been around 40 years ago, my arm would be in better condition. My scoop has only one brace on each side, No trouble with over 1000 hours in the ocean. hWhydah, my detecting partner has the scoop with two on each side. Just a bit heavier, for the straps added. I have both the straight one piece and a three piece travel shaft. I have had zero problems with either. Some have mentioned getting the wrong multi-piece shaft, it tends to loosen while digging. I do recommend removing the shaft from the scoop and cleaning the joint every few months, depending on use. Same for any multi section shaft. Enjoy which ever one you end up with. Go light and stay tight.
