Cool link, never been there myself. The Thunderbird site, or "The Flint Run Complex" is a different story. The Thunderbird site, the Fifty site, and the Fifty Bog are just up river from me. Interesting site, its a shame it was developed years ago.

Scholars are not used to thinking of Native stonework in the Northeast, and separating natural from man made, or colonial agricultural activity from Native can be difficult. It has generated a contentious debate here in New England. Back in the 70's and 80's I documented many such sites in RI. For Neara. See link in previous post. One feature found in the Northeast are called Platform Mounds. Well built stone mounds with many tiny rocks filling the interior. Often associated are triangular shape stones propped against these stone mounds. Years ago, these acquired the name Manitou Stones. Who knows what to make of it all. Still fairly early in investigating, or even recognizing, such sites.

Below are two platform mounds at the same site in RI. The first two photos are the same mound. The triangular stone points true west. The third photo is a 60 foot long platform mound with a triangular stone pointing true north. I took the photos about 1978. In the third photo, I'm standing for scale next to the Manitou stone. Set the timer, run and pose for scale....
