My son was metal detecting the other day and we are having trouble identifying it. It looks like there is a "hum" visible on the barrel. We've spent a bunch of time cleaning it as best we can. Any thoughts out there?
Thank you,
Mike
Could it be a Nichols Derringer cap gun, it looks similar? This example measures 3 3/4" long, 2 1/2" wide. On one side of the small barrel are the words "Nichols USA". The other side says "Use only stallion caps and Nichols pellets" and the word "DERRINGER". There is an "N" on both grips, there is a horses head by the trigger. The barrel 'cracks open' for loading.
This is the only photo I could find of a double barrel Derringer with a full trigger guard. All of them seem to have the spur trigger. This photo doesn't look to me like what you found, but the full trigger guard (yours has rusted away) is unusual.
