found this today at a civil war camp. not aure what it is..may not be anything but all i can see is a 42a on bottom side. any help would be thankful

Is it lead? Looks like a bale seal if it is lead.

It may be a bale seal although I can't remember ever seeing one shaped like that. Try posting it in the What is it forum.
