Can't get that bling if you ain't got that swing
OK well maybe this bling should more appropriately be called blink. Or blank. I tried out some new settings on the new machine and kept myself busy for about four hours. Time flies when you're on a mission. Adding up the total number of pieces dug I averaged digging something every 3 minutes.
Unfortunately today's digs didn't include any silver but they almost included gold if you can call "gold clad" gold. The cross I found looked like it could have come up from an episode of Treasure Quest. The chain was all bunched up and full of green corrosion. Or it could have been goose poo - or both.
I could see it was basically junk - even the fine links of the chain were rust colored copper showing so first I tried a vinegar soak but that did nothing so I just gave it a bath in humidifier cleaner since it said that it removes mineral deposits. It foamed up rather nicely for about a half hour then I took it out and the chain fell to pieces just like Patsy Cline.
The ring was a kids plated ring that's in bad shape - mostly copper showing. The funny part about that ring is the lettering on the inside of it reads 14KT G.E. UNCA CLAD whatever that is. Did they spell genuine wrong? Genuine clad could be worth something!
The oldest thing I found was a wheat cent (1928) about 6 inches down. I don't know if that foreign coin I found is Canadian or something else but it's a penny. 3 Jefferson nickels, 10 dimes, 6 quarters, 25 mem cents.
Now if I can just train myself to ignore the sound the mem cents make, I'd have more time for the good stuff!
My first day out with the new machine Lowbatts and I did some creek & woods hunting and I was using factory default settings. I found a crack head's lighter, an incense burner, a ChuckECheese token, two old and beat up Elgin watch faces or backs, assorted pieces of crockery and China, a surprising amount of bones while digging to China or for China, what I was hoping was the top of the leprechaun's pot of gold but it turned out to be a cast iron toilet flange... and other interesting but worthless stuff! Since I didn't christen the machine with goose poo on it's maiden voyage, I decided to do doo that today and wound up with the pictured stuff.
Thanks goes out to Kimsdad for relaying those settings for the machine. With a little fine tuning I hope to be posting some pics of silver soon.
