Re: can't find any info on this coin?

Well the mint appears from Rome...The reverse copies an old Roman coin of Haridian period but the reading appears to be from the Gallenus family....However 1560 as a date.....

I have several roman coins, mostly bronze that are close b ut not exactly what you show. Try sending me a hi res scan and I will see what I can do.

Re: can't find any info on this coin?

It was purchased in: RIORGES, Rh?ne-Alpes
France.

On an Ebay auction (earlier post)

I've just been trying to get a little background on it. By the number of posts answered here, I figured I've come to the right place.

Re: can't find any info on this coin?

As far as I can see....I was stumped from the beginning..... :o

Please don't tell me you wouldn't(or have never) spent a dollar or two on a coin that you have never seen before?

Now one here knows what it is so I guess I'm not alone.

Half the fun is discovering what you bought or at worst it cost you a couple bucks to go on a fun treasure hunt for a couple hours.(or in this case weeks.... ;D

Thank you all for your help.... ;)

Nothing wrong with the purchase at all. Sometimes you hit a good one. Jeff got a good valuable coin once at a rumage sale i believe. I've had a few windfall purchases at rumage sales myself. As for ebay i strickly sell there.

Here is a rookie translation

Abvndantia - Abundance/Plenty
Pvblica - Public
Galliae - Gallia (now France)

Pietas - Piety (dutiful)
Regis - King of
Invictis - Unconquerable/Invincible

Felicitas - Happy (lucky or most successful)

Hope this helps I haven't yet found any info on the coin specifically.

Re: can't find any info on this coin?

Abvndantia ? Pvblica ? Galliar (victory by public will Galliar family)

Pietas ? Regis ? Invictis (roughly Piety-king-invincible)

Fillictas
Galliae (roughly: happily the restorer of France)

It appears to be a coin from the family I mentioned before. These were minted as victories were had as the empire was falling apart.

Here is a link to a good site that may help some: http://www.beastcoins.com/RomanImperial/V-I/Gallienus/Gallienus.htm

Also if this is a coin from that time it is very well minted even though the condition.
