To me, it looks like this is a repair using 2 different tools. A riveted gooseneck hoe blade which was then welded to the handle socket from a grub, eye, or grape hoe. Just a guess at this point, and I could be very, very, very wrong.

Looks like I just lost $20 though read the history of welding ! Interesting stuff from the 19th century Miller - The History of Welding so could still possibly be late 19th century?
Im going to save your link on welding because it can be used to establish datelines on welded artifacts.

That being said the OPs item appears to be riveted. I dont see a weld line.... but I could be wrong.. .

Good conversation. I looked closer, and revise my thoughts that the socket was welded to the blade itself. I do believe that the rivet plate is separate from the blade itself, but still have reservations about the how the socket is attached to the rivet plate. Was this factory, or attached later?

Good question. I didnt realize how many separate pieces. Good work, as always, Snoopy.

Victor is it just my eyes or is the hoe blade cupped ?
to me it looks more like a wood carving tool , kind of like a Bowl adze or a specialty adze ?

here is the general idea of a bowl adze bowl adze.jpeg

ok,, then not a adze ,,, the metal is to thin to do any serious wood carving any way ,, just looked like the blade was cupped...
and the blade is made round on purpose ,, very interesting .
