It is definitely a Victorian-era bedrail "horseshoe" hook from a bed's frame. Check the pic below.

I yield - though I worked at a foundry/machine shop in the 1980's that was 100 years old then and had things that looked identical to route the various overhead lines. They slid in "C" channels

Charlie P, I think the difference might be the fact that on the Victorian bedrail hooks, the circular hole has a straight/flat section. Theoretically, overhead pipe-hangers would have a completely round hole, because the pipe is round.

After seeing this i also recognize the bracket it was attached to. I have found at least one of them at the same location. The hotel was on the site from 1840 to 1933.
