I wouldn't say it is a cannonball unless it is perfectly round beneath the crud on it. Welcome to the forums. Hopefully the Cannonball guy will come along and tell you about it. He will ask for precise measurements and weight so it will help you to have them.

about 5" diameter - heavy and a magnet will lightly stick to it. Found in Chester, SC

1st - I noticed this was your very first post - so, Welcome Aboard hutch2q! You didn't list your state (or country) in your profile. So, you might consider jumping over to Sub-Forum: Select Your Area.... for information (i.e., clubs, hunts, finds, legends, maps, etc.) directly related to your state (or country).

2nd - If no one can identify your find - you might consider posting your pictures on ROCKS/GEMS for more exposure...

Great looking find hutch, welcome to Tnet too! :hello:
If you lightly knock off the encrustation you'll have a better idea of what it might be.

Also a bit of background info on where you found it... in a river, garden, farm field or a city park, would be helpful as well. :icon_scratch:

It does not look like a cannonball to me.
But with that said, I don't know what it is.
