Cannonball from Maryland property

My friend and I were detecting on his property about 20 miles South of Gettysburg Pa. Across the Maryland border. We did not find any Civil War relics,but my friend is holding what we thought was a small cannon ball that the local farmer unearthed while excavating a new road. Does this look like Civil War, or could it be earlier. Seemed rather small, unless it was part of a larger canister shot. Maybe someone here will know. Pretty cool eyeball find!

I will try to get the weight and diameter. My neighbor found a similar ball and the experts said it was Rev War - French cannon ball
